The material of these socks is extremely thin, and when worn, you can see your feet and toes through them. this makes them essentially useless for running and hiking. they also don't feel like cotton, and although that's a bit subjective - i even went as far as trying the burn test. the fabric does not burn easily, and instead of ash-like residue which you would expect from cotton, you get this gooey substance. so, not an expert verdict, but i would say it's not cotton.
